Intern Summit: maps, mentors, and messy notebooks

I learned more in 48 hours than a whole week of class — not because the material was harder, but because everyone spoke “map.” My three takeaways: (1) ship small wins, (2) document your workflow, (3) talk to ops before you symbolize anything.

My First Internship: a summer I didn’t expect

I never expected to have an internship — seriously. So when the opportunity to intern at MEMA came up, I immediately jumped for it. I’d already been working for about a month and a half with the GIT Lab on campus, but the idea of seeing an actual workplace made me want to grab the chance right away.

Thankfully, staying in Pearl worked out. The bigger challenge was balancing time: 20 hours per week at the GIT Lab meant I stacked my schedule — Monday to Thursday in Cleveland, then Friday (8 hours), Saturday (8 hours), and Sunday (4 hours) in Pearl, before driving back again for MEMA.
